To embrace the message of Christmas is to throw off my hedonistic rebellion and bow before the chafing reality that I can't save myself, and in that very act to be suddenly taken aback in that I've stumbled upon the very freedom I've longed for in the very place I'd least expected it. About This Quote

In his book, The Christmas Sweater , Garrison Keillor tells the tale of a man who takes a job as a department head at a Christmas tree farm. The man is an agnostic who had left his home in Minneapolis for California because of the lack of belief in God there. That paradise, he thought, would be perfect for him; until one night when he dreamt of the Virgin Mary and woke up with some inexplicable knowledge that God exists. Rattled by his dream, he quit his job and headed to Minnesota, where the winter chill is more like that of Grand Forks.

There he met a woman who worked at the tree farm. She was not religious, but she read her Bible every day and told him about the stories within it. They fell in love and got married, he got another job at the tree farm, and they led their lives as best they could.

But there was always something missing for this couple; something that filled their hearts with joyfulness on Christmas morning.
